Military Entrance Processing Station

MEPS Preparation Checklist

MEPS is where applicants complete screening and processing that may include testing, medical evaluation, career counseling, contract work, and the Oath of Enlistment. The sequence and requirements depend on the applicant.

01

Confirm the schedule with your recruiter

  • Where and when to report
  • Transportation, lodging, and meal arrangements
  • Which testing or evaluations are scheduled
  • Exactly which documents and personal items to bring
  • Which medications, prescriptions, medical records, or corrective-lens items are required
02

Prepare documentation early

Official Army guidance identifies documents such as a Social Security card, birth certificate, and driver’s license, along with relevant medical documentation. Your recruiter should provide the current personalized list.

  • Government identification requested by the recruiter
  • Social Security and citizenship or residency documentation
  • Education records when requested
  • Complete medical records requested for prior conditions
  • Eyeglasses, contacts, prescriptions, or lens case when applicable
03

Prepare for a long structured day

  • Get adequate sleep before the early start
  • Follow recruiter instructions about food, beverages, medications, and activity
  • Wear comfortable, presentable clothing without offensive wording
  • Remove piercings and leave valuables or weapons at home
  • Answer medical, legal, and background questions completely and honestly
04

Understand what is not guaranteed

Going to MEPS does not guarantee qualification or a particular MOS. Job options depend on multiple factors, including scores, qualifications, and positions available at the time. Medical or other issues may require additional records, review, or waiver processing.
