Ten preparation milestones

Army Enlistment Preparation Roadmap

The joining process is not identical for every applicant. This roadmap organizes preparation activities without predicting eligibility, approval, timing, or job availability.

01

Explore before committing

  • Identify career fields that fit your interests and civilian goals
  • Compare several MOS options instead of focusing on one title
  • Review duties, training, physical demands, clearance considerations, and sources
  • Write down questions for qualified Army personnel
02

Build testing and fitness readiness

  • Take an ASVAB diagnostic and identify weak subjects
  • Study in repeated short sessions and review explanations
  • Record safe fitness milestones across the five AFT events
  • Use a gradual four-, eight-, or twelve-week plan when appropriate
03

Prepare for official processing

  • Gather documents using the recruiter’s current checklist
  • Discuss medical, legal, education, citizenship, dependent, and background questions honestly
  • Understand the purpose and likely sequence of MEPS
  • Review available job options and written contract terms carefully
04

Prepare to leave

  • Follow the official packing and travel instructions
  • Organize finances, responsibilities, and family communication
  • Maintain sustainable fitness and recovery habits
  • Keep copies of permitted records and know whom to contact with questions
