How to Prepare for an Army Recruiter Meeting

Write down your goals

• Why you are considering Army service
• Career fields and civilian careers that interest you
• Education or credential goals
• Preferred balance of technical, hands-on, indoor, outdoor, and physically demanding work
• Questions about Active Duty, Army Reserve, and available paths

Bring useful information

For an initial conversation, bring a written question list and enough background information to discuss your goals. If you decide to proceed, your recruiter may eventually need documents such as a birth certificate, Social Security card, education records, and identification. Ask for the current document list before bringing sensitive originals.

• Education status and available transcripts or diploma information
• A complete list of medical, legal, and prescription-history questions to discuss honestly
• Any prior-service or dependent information that may apply

Ask career questions that produce specific answers

• Which MOS options are available for the component I am considering?
• Which ASVAB or line-score requirements apply?
• What training locations and approximate timelines apply?
• Does the MOS require security-clearance eligibility?
• Which promises appear in writing in the enlistment contract?
• What happens if the listed job or ship date changes before signing?

Avoid relying on assumptions

MOS availability, incentives, ship dates, duty stations, waiver outcomes, and eligibility can change. Ask what is current, what is conditional, and what will appear in writing. Bring a parent, guardian, spouse, or trusted person if that helps you make an informed decision.
