Army Enlistment Contract Review Checklist
An enlistment contract is a serious commitment. This educational checklist helps organize questions, but it is not legal advice and cannot interpret an individual contract.
Confirm the service path and commitment
- The component you are joining
- The total service obligation and active or drilling periods described
- Initial pay grade when applicable
- Ship date and training sequence
- Any delayed-entry obligations
Confirm the job information
- The MOS or career option written in the contract
- Any conditions attached to that option
- What happens if qualification or training requirements are not met
- Whether an alternate job-selection process could apply
- Which details are current estimates rather than contractual promises
Confirm incentives in writing
Do not rely on an advertisement or verbal statement as proof of an incentive. Ask the appropriate official to identify the exact written contract language and every eligibility, timing, and completion condition.
- Bonus amount and payment conditions, if applicable
- Education or loan-repayment benefit language, if applicable
- Airborne, station, or training options, if applicable
- Deadlines and documentation requirements
Pause when something is unclear
Ask for plain-language explanations and enough time to read. Keep copies of documents you are permitted to retain. Consider independent legal guidance if you need advice about your individual rights or obligations. EnlistReady does not guarantee bonuses, MOS availability, duty stations, or contract outcomes.
