Step 01
Verify identity and basic information first
Check the spelling of your name, identifying information and other basic entries. Small errors are easier to address before signatures. Confirm that the service component shown is the one you intend to join.
Ask the counselor to identify every document that forms part of the agreement and how attachments or annexes relate to the main contract. Do not rely on a screenshot or informal summary when an official document is available.
Step 02
Match the career option exactly
Find the MOS code, title or entry program in the paperwork. Some recruiting programs assign a specific MOS later or cover a broader career field. If that is the case, ask what is guaranteed and what remains conditional.
Confirm the planned training path and ship date, while recognizing that operational or administrative changes can occur. If a school, airborne option, station-of-choice program or other special term influenced your decision, locate the written language that applies.
Step 03
Understand the entire obligation
Ask for a plain-language explanation of the total military service obligation and how much is expected in active, drilling or inactive status. Initial training time, program requirements and component rules can affect the practical timeline.
Do not reduce the agreement to a single advertised number of years. Repeat the obligation back in your own words and ask the counselor to correct your understanding if necessary.
Step 04
Confirm incentives without assuming eligibility
A bonus, repayment program or other incentive can have qualification, training, timing and continued-service conditions. Verify the amount or benefit, the qualifying MOS or option, and the conditions that can affect payment or eligibility.
Job availability, incentives and duty-station programs change. If the final contract does not contain an expected term, stop and ask why before signing. A general recruiting advertisement is not the same as an individual entitlement.
Step 05
Pause when an answer remains unclear
Ask the guidance counselor to show where the answer appears in the official documents. Take enough time to read. If you need independent legal advice about a specific agreement, seek a qualified attorney; EnlistReady cannot provide that interpretation.
After signing, retain the copies provided to you and protect them as personal records. Record future reporting requirements and immediately raise any apparent discrepancy through the official recruiting chain.
